Folllowing. I’m in the same position.
Which group would be betters suited to someone who wants some audit/finance type experience without moving to core assurance? Would it be hard to make the move with Advisory experience? Not opposed to switching firms
Some added info - I already have my CPA and other certs
I am attempting to move to FAAS. I also have my CPA completed and becoming a staff 2 in Risk. By wasting your degree do you mean you want to be doing accounting work? Do you want something other than core because you don't like accounting? Or want more prestige/money?
For me I want to move to FAAS cause I miss the accounting. I personally like the technical nitty gritty of accounting and miss it in my job. I think that I will get more use of my abilities and knowledge in a service line like FAAS.
If you just want to use your degree, I would say you should look at why. Plenty of people don't "use" their degree and love what they do instead. But I'm not sure what service line in B4 will teach you more about fiance. Even core will just teach you about accounting and how a F500 company operates.
FAAS does a variety of things. For one they do the accounting side of an acquisition, so purchase price allocation and what not. They also do GAAP conversions, help with new standards (rev rec and leases). Basically anything a normal accounting department does not have the expertise to do themselves
I moved from risk to TAS/valuation at an independent firm
B4 didn’t give you the opportunity to move internally? That’s just sad!
