I think you’re gonna be getting a pmp
It’s useless, but clients see value in it therefore can be monetized.
Useless money grab. Test also got a lot easier a couple years ago
I have it and it is generally useless however if your boss is recommending it, I'll assume it's for a reason and perhaps your specific practice/clients value it.

The certification was worthless outside of government and IT but the knowledge has been incredibly helpful.
It’s not super useful from my experience as most company’s follow their own version of a PM methodology, but it credentializes you and is marketable. Lots of clients, in particular in the public sector but commercial as well, require a certain number of project team members to have it. It will help your career so I’d go for it, especially if they are paying.
Big Pmping
PMP was my first professional certificate in 2009. Today, I have earned 35. I funded about 50% of them personally. If your employer is willing to invest in a certificate, consider it.
As far as usefulness, I rank it a 3 out of 10. It's never been a ‘hard’ requirement for actual employment, but rather a ‘nice to have’. In my coaching situation, it provides credibility across frameworks of my coachee’s perspective, especially in transformative work.
I hope this helps.
I earned my PMP in 8/2009! Looks good on resume, but worthless otherwise.

I have it, and it’s useless for the work I’m doing. But I hear that in public sector work it is relevant. And if your boss is asking for it, I’m sure there’s value for your organisation.
Just don’t expect to become a better project manager. Prepping for the exam was 100% just memorizing definitions and a huge theoretical process framework.
It’s not useless if your boss think it’ll advance your career
this.
Pro
Just take it. It does look good. Just don’t use any real learnings from it. It goes against common sense.
If my boss told me to get it, and they were willing to pay for it, heck yeah I am getting the cert. it looks
Good on paper to many companies.
My masters degree was based off of the PMBOK they changed the exam shortly after I finished my degree so I never bothered getting the certification. At this point my career, I would never need it. I’ve established a great reputation among varying industries with a large enough network for it not to be worth my time.
If you're a seasoned project manager, then not much value, but if you're starting out in project management, then it is good to have for foundational knowledge.

Never ever do what your boss or doctor says,
always listen to internet
My salary increased by 40% in first two years after getting the certification. Plus I became eligible for so many more job announcements.
it is valued by clients however if thy are a new program manager the tools in eating of it are important and you can use in your tenure.
I have it, it is useless, that said I keep maintaining it just in case
Some states require that you take that course. It is useful.
If you company is paying for it and your boss controls your comp just do what your boss says.
The exam is a really large headache but you never know when those three letters will come in handy. We have a large client who requires that we have the PMP credential to serve as a PM on projects.
