I do agree. A team is a commitment, it makes sense that you are “punished” for missing practices/scrimmages, ex. You missed practice yesterday so you’re not starting today.
Weren’t you supposed to have a tournament that weekend? Thus why the coach scheduled a scrimmage and practice during that weekend? If he scheduled it during a random open weekend, that would be unreasonable.
It’s a team sport. She didn’t put extra work in to support her team. She skipped a team scrimmage to go help another team. If the reason she couldn’t attend was because a parent had a prior commitment and it wasn’t her choice, then ok gray area. But your daughter chose to play with the other team so I agree with the coach’s decision.
If we’re being honest she didn’t choose to either. I saw it as an opportunity for her to get extra work and I signed her up to pick up with the other team. But yeah I made the decision before the scrimmage was scheduled and wasn’t going to renege on the other team.
I’m kind of with KPMG 1 and PwC 2 on this….her commitment is to her team, not someone else’s team. Her team had a scrimmage (practice) to help their team and your daughter was helping someone else’s team. Sorry 🤷🏼♂️

No, I’m not saying “never commit to getting extra reps in”, I’m saying don’t get bent out of shape if the coach for her actual team benches her for missing practice. She’s still on a team regardless of picking up extra reps with other teams and they don’t need to cater to her needs. Sorry OP
She’s 11 - Think you’re both taking this a bit too seriously...
What I want to tell him is “you punished an 11 year old girl for putting extra work in. You really showed her 🙄”
While at the practice on Sun her coach didn’t let her pitch to the girls on her team even tho he let the other pitchers on the team so it. My daughter loves to pitch and needs as much practice as possible (which is why she picked up in the first place). Today her coach confirmed that the reason she didn’t pitch on Sunday was because she missed the scrimmage on Sat. I’m pissed that he punished an 11 year old girl for putting extra work in. Do you agree with him?
My sister was super involved with select softball growing up. Getting picked up on other teams is fairly normal, so not sure why the coach is so upset. You did give him notice you were doing it right? If so, not sure the issue from his perspective. Granted, they are just 11 so maybe some grace on both sides would go a long way. Either way, sorry OP. Is your daughter ok? Was she upset?
Yes she was upset. Also he didn’t tell her the reason and just left her wondering why she was being treated differently. I asked him today. So I’m also like be a man and have a conversation.
I’m shocked that so many people think it’s ok to punish an 11 year old for getting extra reps. It’s the coaches job to develop her so shouldn’t he be happy that she’s getting opportunities to get extra reps in? Is this a male/female thing?
You should have had the weekend blocked as a tournament was scheduled. I would applaud the coach for getting other team scrimmages/practices scheduled due to the tournament being canceled. EY 1 is spot on.
If your boss was having a one hour training on a topic but you missed it to go to a more in-depth whole day training session on the topic, should your boss punish you for missing his?
