I actually think that speaking well of your team is humble bragging.

Totally agree with this. I still love the advice an early boss gave me which is the best managers develop their teams so well it makes their own jobs irrelevant
Chief
This is some of the most annoying feedback out there in my opinion and I’m sorry you have to deal with it: my practical advice and thought is that your manager means “my bosses and the people that make talent decisions need to hear more about your good work”.
I think if you can make case studies that highlight the output of your team that you can share it can give some light to you and just as importantly your team so it doesn’t feel like just a selfish self promotional act

Great suggestion and one I will definitely use. I appreciate the feedback.
It's probably worth asking your supervisor what self-promotion actually looks like to her. That means different things to different people and you might be way overthinking it. She could be asking for something as simple as speaking up more in team meetings.

It’s a good thought, but I know she’s being literal. An example would be me praising my team on good work when they were following my creative direction. She thinks I should be more vocal that it was my plan of action.
That's usually a matter of just becoming more confident talking about yourself. You needn't detract from the team by talking about your work and your management of the team.

I don’t lack the confidence. I think I’m trying to find the right words or method.
