Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Common enough. It's not been overtly stated anywhere I've been employed, but unless it's a really special circumstance (e.g. you're going to leave if you don't get a raise), I think the standard response to any negotiation attempt during reviews is "take the 3% or leave." Most people aren't going to opt for the latter in this market.
Agree
Really depends on company culture. At all companies I’ve worked at all merit raises were you get what you get and based on individual and company performance and were not negotiable. Occasionally people negotiate or may bring in an outside offer but usually from my experience people can only do this so much before leadership just stops engaging and basically lets you leave.
In my experience, I usually had a bit of room to negotiate, just based on whether I had a really good year or maybe something big happened. It does depend a lot on the company and how things are organized. It will be interesting to see how that bonus path shapes up after this.
Depends on the precedent and context
