shame on you for not using the Oxford comma, and then using the Oxford comma in the same sentence
From experience, UA miles are a lot easier to use. The elite status is key though. And when the time comes that you're paying for your own flights, UA miles are a lot easier to use than Delta.
Delta miles are garbage. There are many reasons to fly Delta, but Skypesos are not one of them. If you're SFO, I would go all in on UA or the new Alaska/Virgin. The latter is a sneaky good option if they have the routes you'll be doing
Already booked my first flight with UA but after reading through FB and multiple websites, it seems like Delta is the most balanced of the three. Thoughts?
What's your home airport?
Amex Platinum
@M1 SFO
UA is a much nicer part of the airport and has more flights. Delta finally has a lounge past security, at least, but would be more limited for direct flights depending on where you're headed.
@M1 I see. That makes sense. I guess what just bothers me about UA is the 2:1 conversion with SPG points. I know there's the trick of converting SPG points into Marriott points and then applying them to UA, but it just seems so tedious compared to Delta where it's conveniently 1:1. Which of the two would you recommend?
Hotel points are worth more as is vs. converting to airline miles, so I can't say I've ever done that.
@M1 got it. So based on just airline miles alone, do you prefer Delta over United?
I'm out of MSP, so I'm pretty much stuck with Delta. They keep devaluing sky miles though, so it's getting harder and harder to redeem. I've had good experiences with UA, since upgrade availability is pretty high from MSP.
Gotcha. Good to know. Thank you for all of your help! For now, I think I'm going to stick with Delta but if SFO starts reducing the amount of direct flights through Delta, I'll switch back to UA. Whichever one gets me to an elite status first!
Only reason I fly Delta is because I'm based in ATL 😪
Got it. So based on everyone's comments, the consensus I'm getting here is that UA is better than Delta due to the ease of use of the UA points and that it is the preferred airline in SFO due to overall experience the amount of direct flights available compared to Delta.
Going back to the topic on hotel points, why are they worth more as is compared to converting to airline miles? Is it just better to spend the hotel points on booking hotel rooms in the future instead?
