New? Good luck!
Check out jomashop for a used. I was always advise to buy directly from an AD, but you have to build a relationship with them in order to even be thought of for sought out pieces. Rolex has an OP (no date) that is extremely difficult to get for 6950 in multiple colors. That seems to be the one that is mostly in your budget.

Ah yes, I believe what you’re looking for is Tudor, or a time machine.

Both are amazing! If you go BB58 blue then you go black dial GMT. :)

A). Why do you want a Sub?
B). How long have you wanted a Sub?
C). What do you know about Subs?
D.) Have you tried on a Sub (new and old)?
Unless you literally have tens of thousands of excess dollars that you can throw away, I’d do a bit more research on watches and Subs in general.
If I bought a no-date Sub sight unseen because it was the cheapest one I found, I know I’d end up disappointed with what showed up.
Thank you all

Yeah bud, that’s not gonna happen. I was going to say you should be able to do that # for an Explorer II, but then I looked at Chrono24 and that’s clearly not true.
This time last year you could reasonably expect to get one of those from an AD without an absurd wait, but with these inflated second hand prices that probably isn’t the case anymore.
You can still get a preowned explorer 2 for under 9. I think I saw one on Bobs watches yesterday. No chance at a preowned sub at that price.
Rising Star
Under 9k? Definitely doable for an older no date sub without box or papers, you’re better off trying to get yourself on a list with an ad and just pay msrp for a new one if it. As for the explorer I’d hold off rumor is they are redoing it for the anniversary this year
OP I bought my sub date from HQ Milton years ago without box or papers, just got it serviced at an AD. I won’t be selling it either so box and papers have zero value to me.
Rising Star
You want a new one or previous model? Either way, under $9k is a stretch.
Roger that, but yeah I’m seeing plenty of subs for 8.5-10k online. Not sure if box and papers are necessary??? Please advise. Also, I’m flexible on price up to 10 or 11k
Now you’re asking a bunch of different questions that don’t really seem related to each other.
Advise what? If you want a Sub and you see one that is obtainable in your price range, buy it. What’s to advise?
Tough crowd for a newbie. Really just trying to understand the importance of papers....but I’ll just stick to google.

Papers can be (but not always) a good sign that a watch is authentic, though these days anything can be forged or faked. Having papers also increases the value of a watch for the above fact, and because collectors value “completeness”.
On newer models, a warranty card is the new version of “papers”, and if the watch is less than 5 years old, the warranty card would cover any required and applicable warranty repairs.
As we say, “buy the seller”; if a deal is too good to be true, it is, and you’re getting scammed somehow.
$9k is not pocket change, so the responses you’re getting are a result of how you’re asking the questions. It comes off as, “I found out about Rolex yesterday and they make people cool and the Sub is the best so I want a Sub but I want the cheapest one that checks the box so I can be cool.” I don’t mean to be rude, I’m just trying to explain the hive-mind of the bowl.
Search through old postings here, and do your research online from blogs and youtube, and you’ll know more and be able to ask better questions.

You always need to be careful buying secondhand Rolexes. There are a lot of fakes out there that are very good. Very very good.
Just one more watch has a cool video with two real subs and a fake.
When you see no box or papers it’s dicey. Even dealers get duped some times. There is a lot of trust involved.
That’s just not true, BCG1. Even a clone Rolex movement is immediately obvious as a fake inside of 5 seconds to the trained eye, as none of the clone movements have free spring balance wheels.
And once again, OP says they want a 5 digit Sub — there are no “new from AD” options. Those went out of production over a decade ago.

Came across this.

M1 maybe I misread. Didn’t see mention of papers unless inserts = papers.

I would suggest taking a look at the Yacht Master instead. Its a dressier version of the sub, thus more appropriate for a desk jockey, and differentiate you from very other consultant 😬. The pre-owned 16622 is under your budget.
Good luck
