Very related. Gotta keep our kids safe
Depends on your concerns. Fire? Burglary? Prying eyes/paws?
You should use a safety deposit box for your irreplaceable items (passports, original paper docs, precious metals, jewelry that’s infrequently used). In the event of a real fire, your small house safe is likely toast. House fires burn very hot for a very long time.
I have a large safe for my long guns. Bolted to the concrete, heavy as hell, and concealed in the garage. I try to use that for any valuables that are staying at home for an extended duration.
My watches live at the bank. I daily one of my Rolex’s, and for a special occasion I’ll pick up a different watch and it’ll stay in the garage.
Burglary concerns? You need something concealed ideally coupled with a dummy safe that they find. I have a cheap $50 safe filled with concrete bricks in my home office that’s poorly hidden. I actually had a break in 10ish years ago, all they got was concrete, lol!
Thanks for the recs! Btw, I have a dog and I don’t he’s quite the “anti-burglary” type…
How big? I have one and can recommend. I love mine. Did a bunch of research. So I can recommend on different sizes too.
Would you please be able to share a few examples? (I’ve got ~10 pieces) Also - anything that you might recommend for jewelry in general?
What are your needs and expectations. Also, where is this safe going to be.
I got the AMSEC 1814 TL-30. Yes, overkill by any metric, but anything in there is quite safe. I just looked it up and it’s 758 lbs. While looking it up a company called Brown Safe popped up in the search. Those are wild.
AMSEC - find a local safe company that sells them. Top quality, fire and longevity.
