Many people lack basic etiquettes. And this is one example of it. There are even more annoying things like taking calls on speaker while at the desk, not cleaning up a meeting room, etc.
Maybe there should be a handbook with these things so that it’s all documented because people seem to lack basic common sense these days
Couldn't agree more
If the call is with A/AC/C of the project I am directly working with them, what is harm in writing quick call. Its pretty implied the call will be directly related to project work or any that particular client…
If its with some random person, I always ask/provide these 3 things in the chat first
(where from/whose reference I got their name from, what is it about, are you free for 10 -15 minutes), then I call
I agree with OP, I am a C and I also feel really annoyed when someone simply writes quick call, be it someone outside of the team or within the team. And i think it's nothing to do with the designation, it's a psychological thing as per me. I would prefer someone writing - i need to discuss a particular thing, do you have some time to talk or let me know when you are available. Perhaps this is more polite and also doesn't divert someone's mind straight away. But i understand that just because I ask everyone this way doesn't mean that others would follow the same approach. And the worst thing is people who call directly without even pinging, that's just the most annoying thing for me.
Rising Star
I disagree with this post and I can tell you that I consciously do this to many of my colleagues.
I have worked for B4 along with ZS. Unlike ZS, they have strategy/consulting and technology/ops as two different arms. Within technology, I have seen this typical behavior of junior employees asking the reason for the call and then trying to ditch by giving some excuse of being busy. A behavior that I came to know is cultivated by former WITCH managers to basically avoid work-related-deadlines. I came across employees explicitly trained by offshore managers not to go on "quick" calls when requested by someone from other onshore/project team/workstreams.
Now, the only defence one has with such team-mates is to not give them a headsup of how you're going to let them on the spot in the call and make them uncomfortable about deadlines, deliverables or whatever they didn't or weren't planning on doing.
Having said that, I do practice above only with known offenders and always start with context for like-minded teammates or total strangers.
Op - You really need to think about what really annoys you. The fact that their requests are repeatedly unreasonable (potentially give them a feedback?) or something that makes you uncomfortable(maybe work on that?)
