It will depend on the role for sure. I like async, but that was something I had to work on to actually be productive. Time management does not come naturally to everyone. It can be worked on if they want to. I like the idea of 3-4 hours that are core hours, then the rest is up to you to figure out. Not many opportunities out there for truly async, what do you see? Also wonder how much of that is team/manager specific.
also uninterrupted time is gold for this matter, if I have meetings all day and 4 hours made by 1 hours slot each I won't be able to accomplish anything
I am seeing this shift more and more. For many roles, especially senior ones, output and ownership matter far more than being online 9 to 5.
Structure helps some people, but rigid hours feel limiting when the work is knowledge heavy. Curious how others feel. Do you do your best work with flexibility or fixed hours?
I would really struggle if I had to go back to a structured 9-5 job. I'm not someone who can be productive with that kind of schedule. My work doesn't care about the hours I put in or when I put them in, they only care about what I produce and that I am available for meetings. Having the freedom to sleep in when I need to, and take breaks when I need to has pretty much eliminated my work related stress and made me a better employee.
i work in 30 cycles because I am remote. You should work your schedule base on team dynamics. Most of the people i managed are in India or Manila so during EST there’s just not much for me to do.
