Personal injury paralegals, what are your salaries like? I have 5+ years of legal experience, I have my paralegal certificate. At the firm that I am at I do intake and case management and I supervise 1 person. I’m at $55k,am I being paid fairly?

No, that’s terrible. This isn’t 2005. You need to be at 90.

likefunny

What market are you in? That sounds awfully low to me, especially if you’re supervising a person, but you might be in a low cost of living area.

like

This could absolutely be market dependent. I’m in a higher COL living area and PI paralegals start around $55 to $60k without any experience. Also, the OP mentioned they had 5 years of experience and were responsible for supervising another paralegal so if they are only getting around $55k, they are woefully underpaid.

Because you are supervising. I say no. You should at least be making 65

like

If you are strictly litigation, $55,000.00-$60,000.00 is the overall average in New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona within a few bucks. I have a couple of decades of PI experience functioning in every aspect from initial phone call, intake, opening of file, arranging medical care where applicable, drafting every letter, ordering and summarizing medical records, obtaining all incident-related medical bills, subrogation ledgers and other evidence, preparing simple and complex demand letters, negotiating settlements and medical expenses and subrogation liens. In matters I cannot get resolved, I draft the complaint and handle the file through discovery and/or mediation. I am in New Mexico and don't get out of bed for less than $60,000.00 plus bonuses.

like

How many hours do you work? Or regularly bill daily? How’s your workload? And have you checked salaries in your area to compare? It sounds low to me but maybe 55k is appropriate where you live (?) if low-cost of living…?

Be careful
About jumping ship. ST it’s
Not a good idea specially in today’s economy.

like

Are you at a plaintiff firm? What type of law? PI? If yes, that sounds about right.

That salary seems fair, but it might depend on the part of the country you are in. My thought is that if you could get experience in another area, something that would give you litigation experience or probate/estate, etc. you could earn more money. I would take less money to start in another area to get the experience. It will be worth it because you will then be experienced in that new area and can move on to a higher paid position. Maybe you could even talk to your current firm about letting you work on some litigation cases too. Good Luck!

I am wondering if I can do this. It feels daunting but also I’ve accepted an offer from another company but don’t know if it is what I want but I think I also don’t feel comfortable in my current situation. I wonder how long I could maybe do this but not sure.

How many remote jobs do you currently have, and how do you manage your time between the two roles?

Bonus points if you share the industry you are in and your total salary from working all your roles.

Random question - My dad took a whole life insurance policy for me when I was 15. Although the policy relates to me, the name of the policyholder is my dad and I would like to change it to me but keep the same beneficiaries. Is it possible to transfer from him to me? (This policy relates to my death btw)

This is the only bowl I can think to post in, but I'm really feeling it today. Has anyone lost their best friend (i.e. through time/growing up) and feel like none of their current friends could live up to the fun/connection you used to have with your high school BFF? I feel like I put too much focus on that one friend and also my boyfriend and just never actually made time for anyone else. I fucked myself over.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

I feel like I’m the only one that can’t manage a 70+ case load without letting someone down. I constantly have to say “Can I do this tomorrow?” Etc. I don’t even have time to bill on the clock. Has anyone dealt with a lack of praise from attorneys? I'm not someone who needs to hear "good job" all the time, but we just got a huge deal closed that I worked really hard on and had a lot of overtime.
