I have recently joined EY SaT group as senior consultant recently in Netherlands. I’m tripple masters in MS economics, MBA and MS business analytics. Have 4 YOE in different industries but no M&A experience specifically. Any ideas what company should be offering me? I’ll be working as expert on commercial due diligence, FDD and valuation teams and doing automation alongside. is it wise to demand higher salary or promotion soon after I have proven that I can work and do it better than most?EY

I think our fortunate circumstances (education, jobs, etc.) how given us a skewed perception of what it means to live a comfortable life with happiness. $100k/year is more than enough to comfortably raise a family in Texas, even Austin and Dallas. You don’t need to drive an $80k vehicle, live in a gated community, and key around the world to be happy. Once you truly discover that, the money is just a plus.
Agree. Live within your means. Modest house in suburbs…everyone else will be the same, so less competition for material goods. Over time you’ll make make more, and when kids are all school age, you can switch to 2 income or gig work if doable. Save for college and retirement. Send kids to state schools or community college first year.
Have to live an hour and a half outside DC to not live in a closet for a family of 3 and be able to save 20% gross. Household income was $165k FY24.
Yeah, I’m the sole earner for my family of 6, about an hour into MD but in a pretty affluent area. 155k gross 2024, we save about 10% outside of retirement and own our home.
You can live, not thrive. Assume no car and renting
I didn’t realize Massachusetts would top the list.
