Your manager: “Good morning!”
this triggered me
Rising Star
If this is the worst thing you have going in your day, then life’s pretty good lol
Rising Star
Chill. Some people do it as a courtesy in case you’re screen sharing
What kind of troglodyte doesn’t turn off message popups
Chief
Or you say “question for you when you have a moment.” Don’t just say “hi” like a psychopath, especially if you’re pinging someone junior to you.
Hi SM1
No. I will choose to be respectful of people screensharing.
No
Sorry, op. You are wrong on this. Hopefully you can move past a small greeting giving you rage.
Especially when your large team does it all day long
Chief
yt?
Rising Star
I prefer to start with “Hi!”, let them respond, then forget about the chat and follow up with my response a day later
You there?
yt?
I have a question for you OP
Thank you for asking
Hey
This should be a PSA
No it's best to make people wait 2 min in suspense for max impact
I just don’t answer those pings.
If you send me a ping without asking if I’m available to shift my attention to you and proceed with a message that requires any kind of thought, expect your message to be ignored for as long as possible.
You might be in the middle of something and need a minute. No one has any chill anymore.
Time for a qq?? 🤗
I get it. You want to be revered like a nuclear submarine captain in the Red Army. #onepingonly
If I get a random “hi” ping from someone I don’t know I just ignore them. Usually they’ll either follow up with what they wanted or email me.
I see the “I’m being respectful in case you’re sharing your screen” reason as weak too. Folks need to learn to either turn on do not disturb on their IMs, quit the IM app, or better yet only share a window. I’m far more worried about one of my teammates on the meeting with me pinging me something inappropriate about the call than I am someone asking me for a document.
Uh no, I effing hate that. Try to make a regular conversation flow. How would you feel if 20 people just suddenly bombed you with their ask in text.
It's overwhelming and rude. Don't be that person.
Why is that such a major issue? You want to know if you should ignore their request or not?
