yes, and only take the counter if you obviously don’t have anything lined up or you’re not bullish on this new job, but remember they’re gonna look at you as a flight risk so they might just wanna keep you on for a little bit to finish up a project and then let you go.
it’s a cold world out there
The choice is yours but I highly recommend you leaving and not considering their new-found appreciation.
You’ve informed them of your intention to leave. Their gut reaction is to try to get you to stay as it seems to have been unexpected and they do not have the personnel/expertise to cover your job responsibilities.
The biggest red flag to me is it took your official resignation for them to start showing appreciation. Where was this reaction when you were simply an employee who was staying put.
Your resignation started the company’s search for your replacement, regardless if you decide to remain or not.
Leave and do not go back.
Happened to me but once you show your cards, it’s better you leave
It's a trappppp. They'll keep you on until they recruit a replacement then treat you like shit until you leave. Or they'll put you on a bogus PIP.
If your issue was solely the money but you loved your job and the people you work with, then stay. If you have issues with the company all around, those won’t go away anytime soon, so take the other job and go.
They have already started looking for your backfill and trying to keep you there for when they do. Then you’re gone. Get out while you can
Never take the counter offer. There are always hard feeling that will be held against you. Better to leave on good terms and come back.
I was in a very similar situation several years ago.
I took the other offer and left the firm.
Go to where you feel you’re valued and then work hard in the new place to carve out specific area and be one of the go-to people.
Moving and “starting fresh” has its perks of allowing you build on your learned experiences to really highlight your strengths while also addressing your improvement areas in a brand new environment. Take advantage of that new opportunity 🙌
Good luck!
I was in a similar situation and I took the counter offer. My situation was purely money and they played hardball with me. So I played hardball back, found an offer and said I was leaving. I did enjoy the job, team etc so when they bumped me up an extra 25K, it fixed my problem. I stayed for another ~18 months and eventually left for industry on good terms. Just an example of it working out in the right scenario.
I did that and I was given a raise. I shut up and continued to work where I was.
My sole reason was that I would be doing the game thing at the other place so it was not much of a difference. I’d give to prove myself to the or her company whereas I had already done that in my current job.
But your circumstances could be different so evaluate why were looking for the first place. Was it just money or something else.
