Proud to be serving my community through public service.
Working in government means being part of something bigger — shaping policies, delivering vital programs, and making a real impact in people's lives.

What does public service mean to you?

I feel much the same. I've worked on projects that have benefited the community at the local level and that's gratifying. It's unfortunate how government service has been maligned lately. I wonder if people will just be dissuaded from careers in public service because of all the insults level at government workers this year.

It is very unfortunate! I do think some people have started to step back from public service especially recent graduates. I love the work I do but it also sometimes feels that there are so many barriers due to policy, procedure and the politics of it all.

Hey, everyone! Hoping someone may have a lead for a free online database for training approvals and registrations? It doesn’t need to be fancy! I’m in a new role in the public sector and am trying to move them out of Outlook and Excel messiness for training registrations. I’m just looking to streamline and centralize the process. (We don’t have SharePoint or any centralized database.) Thanks in advance!

Applying to roles within the same federal agency. I know you need one year within the probationary period, but can I apply to a higher GS level? For example, if I'm GS 9, receive a promotion to GS 11 at the end of probation, would i be able to apply to GS 13 roles if I'm qualified? Tried researching this for hours but only found info on applying to other agencies.

Hi! Anybody knows of federal agencies hiring that are offering fulltime telework/remote?

A HR question I really want to understand. ISRS HR quoted a podcast "The not so great resignation" saying 70% regret leaving and many want to go back to old employer. If this really the case the employee likely left due to higher pay at the new company. If they want to boomerang back they will likely come back at even a higher rate than they left the new company for. So getting double raise when they boomeranged. Isn't it unbeneficial, why not just give employee a 7% raise in the first place?
