150 is going away generally imo. Should check your state requirements and projection of need.
To answer your question your question, no it doesn’t.
Check with your local community college. In Dallas, TX, a program was created with the Dallas County Community College and the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. The name of the program is the Advanced Technical Certificate in Professional Accountancy. As long as you have a business, accounting, or finance degree, you qualify for the program. After you complete the program, you can sit for the CPA. The total cost is $3,564. (August 2025 pricing) Good luck!
Wow that’s amazing, thank you. I will surely look into this!
Go to an online community college

My son is getting his master’s in accounting and it’s not costing anywhere close to $60K. Where are you looking?
when i got my masters in accounting i went to UIUC’s program online and it was in the $20-$25k range if i remember correctly
I took community college classes and paid like 800 bucks for 30 credits
No. I wouldn’t think a bunch of hours at a community college would cost anywhere near 60k
Once you get your CPA license the school you went to will only matter during March Madness or football season office trash talk.

You need to satisfy the credit requirements by subject and overall credit count. It doesn't matter what school those credits come from. Some of my team "topped off" their credits with community college ones, and thise were accepted without issue.
Does it matter where you get your 150 from? No! Going to a good school always helps to differentiate yourself from most other candidates (of course given you have maintained good academic excellence). Once you get your CPA completed it will overweigh which school you went but still a good school and a CPA designation will stay forever and will be preferable when it’s comes to differentiate candidates. But you have to choose what’s best for you and your financial health. As long as you stay focused on getting the CPA completed nothing else should matter
I appreciate the well thought out advice, thank you!
Check out this program. It's about $14,500 total https://online.lsu.edu/online-degree-programs/graduate/mba-general-business/
Go to your community college, that’s how I got my credits for my CPA
You do not need a masters degree. Take basket weaving at community college.
