Hi Fishes,
I Will be Joining PWC AC B as SA2 on Sept 2,2022. Just want to know about Appraisal cycle. Is it Mid Year or Annual appraisal process. Also, will I be eligible for next appraisal cycle ? Tried asking the same Question to HR, but didn't get a proper response. She just mentioned as per company policy.

Not to scare you but hope this helps. I had a mini panic attack right before it started, not cause of the surgery but I have claustrophobia and all these people and things over me freaked me out. I asked the medical team to give me a minute to sit up and breathe and they gave me the time. Plus my husband and the midwife that I was with (since it was a vaginal birth that turned to c section) were next to me, talking to me throughout.
This is so say that take deep breaths and verbalize to your medical team if you're nervous. They'll likely be very understanding, like mine were, and could help you ease any worries
Just want to say I had an unplanned c-section and had a very positive experience. My incision healed quickly and I made sure to move around as much as possible, which I think helped the healing process too. Everyone fusses over you, which really helped me. Every single medical professional in the room was a woman, which was pretty incredible.
I threw up during mine lol. Had to turn my head to the side while lying on my back, very awkward. Luckily someone was there with a bucket - just be prepared to state very loudly and clearly what you need! One thing I wasn't expecting was that the baby comes out really quickly and most of the time is stitching you back up. I'm in the UK and they let me cuddle the baby after he'd been cleaned up, will they let you do that? (Assuming the baby is all good)
I had a planned c section. I was super anxious about it but it honestly went so so smoothly. How I prepared…I:
- asked my doctor to walk me through what would happen during our last appointment
- made a birthing playlist that i listened to before and during
- yes, you will shiver after (though my nurse said it’s because the room is so cold due to need for sterilization but who knows)
- and honestly most comforting was my OB asked me to hug her during the spinal. I started to cry and she just held me tight while the anesthesiologist did his thing
If you have a partner, ask them to have some fun discussion topics, jokes, etc! That helped me keep my mind off what was actually happening.
Thank you!! I now plan to request my husband’s best jokes and stories before surgery starts so that he can have content ready - thanks!
Had a scheduled c-section, I ended up weirdly calm for it. It was a necessary evil.
My doctor explained baby is out within like 5 minutes of them starting, so for the rest of the surgery you have a wonderful distraction. They cleaned up baby quickly and laid him on my chest while they finished the surgery. It was awkward positioning because there isn't much room, but still glad I had the "golden hour" bonding experience. The drugs made me ITCHY though. Didn't kick in until about half way through the surgery and lasted for hours afterwards. Like scratch yourself like crazy kind of itching.
I also had a GREAT anesthesiologist person on my side of the curtain who was calmly explaining the highlights of what was happening on the surgery side, when baby was out, etc. That helped me not feel alone/ kept in the dark.
Glad you had a positive experience and appreciate the insight! I didn’t realize baby can be out so quickly after the procedure starts - thanks for sharing that!
Thanks, all, for sharing your experiences! Helps me feel better going into surgery hearing about how your C-section day went and now I have a better sense of what to expect which gives me more peace of mind - thank you again!!
Thank you! Hadn’t heard about a QL block and definitely going to look that up and ask my OB. Appreciate that!
Make a playlist! It’s fun to pick songs that make you think of your baby and imagine them being born to. It helped me feel more excitement than nerves. But during the actual procedure, I was so overwhelmed I have no idea which song was playing when he came out 😂
And lots of breathing during. I didn’t expect to feel as overwhelmed as I did so I really had to control my breathing. I think it’s a mix of the stress your body is under, not being able to feel most of it, and obviously this huge life change happening. It just hit me all at once when the procedure started.
I loved having a scheduled c-section. You’re going to do great!!
Thank you! After reading this, I definitely plan to make a calming playlist.
I’d ask your doctor for how it’s going to go… I asked for a run down, because it helps me to understand where I am in the process. I have had two c-sections now, and my first wasn’t great (I hemorrhaged and lost a lot of blood and needed multiple transfusions); because of this, with my second, I asked my doctor about protocols and what they were doing differently due to my history - the second one went so much better. I still had anxiety but knowing what to expect and advocating for myself were helpful.
I ended up having a C-section after a day and a half of labor, so because I never planned on having one I didn’t do that much research on it.
2 things that I wish I knew ahead of time:
1) You can’t eat afterward. I wanna say they told me I couldn’t eat for 24 hours after, but I gave birth around 5:45 PM and was able to have breakfast in the morning.
2) The anesthesia given ahead of the C-section made me shiver uncontrollably, my teeth were chattering nonstop and it was a very strange sensation that I didn’t know was normal and to be expected.
Same as EY3…they told me to take it easy and eat bread / crackers but my husband ordered pizza and cheesy bread and I ate the cheesy garlic bread. Definitely about 2 hours after surgery. I think they are just trying to make you not throw up. I’m sure they didn’t tell you 24 hours, that’s excessive.
I had an emergency c section with 10 mins notice before having it. I stayed calm bc I knew u had to do what I had to do for my baby. I think I was more upset of the time I spent in labor, opposed to just getting a c section. lol I almost threw up when they were sewing me up, but nothing came out bc you aren’t supposed to eat a certain time period before. I had to tell them to pause. I also shook uncontrollably.
For what it is worth, I was able to walk around regularly that evening. I had my child in the afternoon.
Yes, if I have any kids in the future, I am going to just plan for a c-section!
I am with you!! I had a scheduled c-section in 2022, but ended up needing general anesthesia because the spinal wouldn’t take (I have scoliosis). I’m now pregnant again and going to try to have a spinal again, but FREAKING OUT over the being awake for surgery aspect. I want to do what’s best for the baby (and general introduces some add’l risks), but I’m honestly just freaking out about freaking out lol
