Have not been around the B4 for 15 years but I suspect that you’re right. B4 is shifting towards a WITCH model where staff are truly commodities that they try to squeeze every penny out of, not future leaders for each firm (which they will hire from outside).
I hope that manager from 1998 is enjoying a well earned retirement by now⛳️

Someone who was a manager in 1998 has been around for a while longer than 15 years
Rising Star
A manager in 1998 would be about 48-50 now, so probably not retired.
They probably made about 80-90k. That’s about 128-144 today. I made $40k when I started at AC in 1999. If you had a technical degree you made $48k. Those would be $65-75k today.
Great info, thank you

1) 3 decades and 15 years are very different
2) average comp has most certainly gone up, not down... less a function of any wage change vs inflation than just a reflection of how the firms have changed. They were accounting businesses 15 years ago. Everyone sold their advisory arm except Deloitte. So PwC, for example, didn’t have the S& people making MBB money who skew the average
3) comparing like for like, I suspect wages have grown just a touch faster than inflation, but not much
Much appreciated
