Raise question. Just finished first year at new firm. 10 year attorney. Former solo that joined larger advertising PI firm. 3-4 of the 10 years experience are in PI but only one exclusively in litigation. I am on litigation side. Lots of trial experience in former practice area. Compensation is currently 125k base, 3% quarterly bonus once I surpass about 60k in fees. Yearly review -About 1mil in fees but only about 150k self generated. What should I ask for in terms of raise?

What are some habits that inhibit you from being successful at your job?

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I am finishing up my second year of practice as a lawyer. I transitioned to plaintiffs pi work from a boutique commercial litigation firm. I like the work and not having to bill. The issue I am having is managing volume. I have about 150 active files some pre-lit and the rest are in litigation. Cases range in value from very small to low six figures. I also take the driver seat for the grunt work on the firms bigger cases which are at or near 7 figure value. I constantly feel (cont.)

Thoughts on purchasing leads?

In an auto accident trial, can you inform the jury in any way that the at-fault driver had insurance? I have a hard time believing a jury would award 7-figure damages if they thought the little old lady defendant had to personally pay. I’m just starting to do PI on the side by myself at my firm, so this is probably a very dumb and obvious question.
