Agree with the above that it’s a buyers market right now. However, it’s still possible to land a good job. It just takes more time and effort. I just landed an amazing position that I’m super excited for. The recruiter told me they haven’t been able to find anyone for this position. So, I know it had been open a while and also know that the company will not just settle for anyone. I had very specific experience they were looking for. I will say, I had 2 years less experience than what was stated on the job posting but they liked me anyway since I worked with some of their customers before.
I did 2 other interviews at other companies but didn’t make it past like the 2nd round, which was fine with me. In the end, I wanted my new opportunity to be a mutually good fit. And I feel like this one was the one I was meant for. Definitely, keep trying. There are still opportunities out there. Even if you don’t land a job right away, just networking holds so much value. And who knows..the market may shift sooner than we think.
It is a buyer’s market. Plenty of resumes to pick and choose.
I was a hiring manager until last month and have been looking for a new job for 6 months. When I was hiring, plenty of resumes, not many had qualifications we were looking for and didn’t make it past the recruiter before landing on my desk for an interview. Now that I’m looking for a job, I’ve submitted 100+ resumes over the past 6 months for jobs I’m very qualified for, each resume tailored to the job with an accompanying personalized cover letter, but only received one phone screen with a recruiter and mostly no responses from the companies I applied to. Only about 1/3 responded with a form rejection email. It’s rough for both sides.
