Recruiters, please don’t dedicate several pages to explaining how amazing your firm is, only to bury at the end a line saying not to apply unless you have several years of experience. Then complain about the resumes you receive as if they’re all low quality. If you don’t want applications from candidates below a certain level, make that requirement visible and respectful up front. It saves time for everyone and avoids sending mixed signals.

Or people could just read the whole job description. It's an easy way to weed people out.

Excellent, they would be well-advised to heed your advice!

If they make the required years of experience more visible, they are likely to receive a more qualified applicant pool. Instead of 100+ resumes with only 20% meeting the minimum requirement, they might get 25 resumes — but 90% of them would meet the requirement. This improves their efficiency and effectiveness as well.

I was rejected for a strategy role at an advertising agency after 8 interviews because they felt I needed more agency experience. I’m in my 1st job post-undergrad doing in-house comms/mktg and currently getting my masters in Ad/PR. I’m dying to be in an agency setting. Does anyone have recommendations on how to showcase my skills, or build out “agency skills” while not being in an agency?

First year trainee here. Having the standard wobbles but generally surviving.

My question is - how can I tell if I'm doing well? More specifically, what common and avoidable mistakes (specific or general) do trainees make, and what attitude or actions impress you?

Recently overheard some associates complaining about another trainee and now I have the fear... I want to get this right. Thanks in advance.

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Is there any insight to how many billable hours this would require, and how much time that would actually be? For reference, the firm has a 1900 billable hour requirement and the partner said I would have “no problem” fulfilling that based on the work they have.

I’ve felt seriously burned out at my firm for a long time, and now during this point in the year I’ve reached a new level of struggle in terms of trying to be productive. Hey so just to check on my part. I worked at a place where we went to a firm happy hour and women attorneys were there. A picture was passed around of a really hot woman on Instagram who they are oggled , later after the woman left some guy talked about all the quote whores he slept with. The women weren't sex workers presumably. I'm a male this behavior seems inappropriate to me and made me uncomfortable. Am I expected to exhibit this level of 1950s machismo in my day-to-day life?
