Just saw this, too. Good. Pharma ads have no place on broadcast TV.
Additionally, they’re artificially inflating the value of the :30 ad so clients with actual consumer products should see costs come down.
RFK Jr: Truly a broken clock, but only right once a day.
Rising Star
His brain worms wanna give their brethren a fighting chance. But honestly pharma ads are terrible and there’s a reason other countries don’t allow them.
Pharma ads are terrible and the bain of audiences everywhere.
That said, don’t think for a second that it won’t affect us non-pharma folk.
If RFK Jr kills them then holding cos will layoff even more than they already are and production companies will take a huge hit to their revenue streams which have already dropped considerably these last 3 years.
Obviously this would be bad for pharma folks, but what does this mean for non pnarma folks?
Would clients put more of their production/creative money into tv since costs would be less?
Would holding cos have less money to spend on non-pharma talent? Since they were basically propping us up.
Very few pharma creatives would be able to get jobs in regular agencies. This is a harsh truth.
In every other country they are banned. They should be banned.
Anyone in advertising should probably know about the Central Hudson Gas Supreme Court case. It sets forth what commercial speech is and the boundaries for what is/isn’t protected under the First Amendment.
No way the pharma lobby just rolls over on this. Both Trump and all of the Republican senators and Congress ppl. getting pharma $$ will equally beat a path to RFKs door to cut the effort is. Same guess for price caps on drug costs. Any bone the Repubs have tossed towards more working class/middle class Americans will not materialize. It's like no taxes on tips - didn't happen and it's not going to happen. These pharma companies will throw money directly at Trump and the party and this will quietly go away. Note that I don't think this is a good thing, personal opionion wise - for end consumers I don't think pharma ads, especially broadcast TV, provides much value. But this is the last administration I'd see doing anything to really help the general populace. All they care about is self enrichment and power, influence.
Forget the pharma lobby. The broadcast media lobby has even more to lose...and is even more powerful.
If it happens the industry is going to shrink drastically. Layoffs aren’t just going to affect pharma teams, it’s going to downsize whole agencies.
Rest assured our clients will lobby and bribe hard to make sure the ads stay on the air.

This buzz is based on parody twitter account. There was zero new news on Sunday
There’s no news to back this up. Where did you see this.
Strategist 1, Answer is, no, he doesn't, any more than Trump has authority to eliminate the DOE. And SCOTUS precedent would knock down any attempt. Ain't happening.
Does a tv ad ban have any jurisdiction over streaming? I know old people like their cable but it won’t be long before streaming is everything.
Not a fan of pharma ads but I genuinely think this would be like dropping a bomb on an already cratering ad market. That said, it’s never gonna happen. They know who their daddy is
I think it really make brand question the need for a health media agency when they can take digital in-house. What else would they need one for if not for TV?
What percentage of overall DTC spend is on TV ads specifically? 10%? 20%? I know that’s not nothing but still.
