What's wrong with just chilling? Especially if everybody's off engagements?
K2 has it right. Just chill. Filling the docket isn’t your problem at your level. If they do show you the door, the rest of us need help.
Don’t look for a new job unless you have to. I’m surprised you don’t have billable work, everyone seems busy.
Everyone who is on a long-term client project has been on it for months so far and tend to be senior analysts/managers
I was in a similar situation with my last firm due to a lack of work in the pipeline. I gave it a year but decided that it was better for my career to move on and get better experience elsewhere. It's a personal decision, but I initially became a consultant to learn and grow and wasn't being challenged.
Which firm?
If you’re idle in this market, it doesn’t bode well. In your shoes, I’d start looking elsewhere. Associates are great for profitability in the leverage model. They are usually the first to get staffed and fought over.
Continuing showing initiative/urgency to want to be staffed on a billable project. If you do your part, it isn’t on you that you can’t get staff. Also, have an honest convo with leadership about how not staying staffed affects your place at the firm.
But, yes, if you feel that your place at the company is shaky then start looking for other options.
It might delay your promotion but should not be a big deal
