Silly question to start the day - Why do we refer to an email as a “note”? I know it’s minor, but some corporate jargon just rubs me the wrong way

True. I prefer saying “electronic mail” over “note” to assert my dominance.

Because it is a note. Grow up

like

The same reason we refer to IMs as "Pings"

like

We do do

A short informal message is a note. Not really corporate jargon.

Have you ever heard someone say “Let me drop them a line?” It means “i’ll email them” 🤣

likefunny

1: write “down” how you feel
2: write “up” how it went…

Language just be like that sometimes!

like

Because it's one syllable.

helpful

Note is better for me to say than email. Email seem so distant and impersonal.

For anyone who practices tax lit in the US Tax Court, what’s your experience with the independent office of appeals? They don’t seem quite that “independent” to me and so far, I’ve only had one appeals officer who seemed knowledgeable and nice. It’s been a real headache. Interested to hear other people’s experience.

Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. She’s made 5 other associates cry during her 5 year career. Got someone fired and made another person quit. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males. I came along and thought I could deal with it but she literally makes me want to not log on tomorrow.

Hi all,
I’m currently working for a small technical consulting start-up firm. I make good money, have great benefits, and they seem very happy with the work I’m doing, so I know I could move up quickly. However, tech consulting is definitely not my dream job. I want to get into data analytics, and I have an offer from a big company to do just that. I’ve only been at my current company for about 8 months, but I don’t ever see myself loving this job. How do I know when it’s time to make a change?

Looking for recommendations on a good book/resource on how to manage people, especially when you’re managing teams to achieve tight deadlines and also overall leadership for those teams.
