Any advice on a first year trying to transition from family law to in-house? I always thought family law was my path, and used to enjoy it, but it’s not the direction I want to head in anymore. I don’t think I even want to continue with any litigation work. I’m having a hard time finding firms that are hiring entry level associate positions that don’t require at least 3+ years experience in-house. Should I start at a business law firm to get experience working with corporations first?

Anyone in VFLS (Valuation, Forensic Accounting and Litigation Support) that can tell me the type of work, typical hours/week, WLB, if there are busy seasons, what the culture is like, including if it’s high/low pressure environment, growth trajectory, or any other useful information?

I do sales for a major engineering firm. Focused on new business and exploring new markets. Last year I was in the top 50% for order intake, and first in number of projects won along with number of new customers. I think this is extraordinary given the effort it takes to win new business.

For next year my goal increased by 2.5X, and less of what I bring in counts towards that target. I really enjoy my job but I will essentially be getting a large pay cut. Lost in what to do besides quit??

So, I just fired my first employee as a manager and I'm heartbroken. He was a great, great person but after 6 months on a PIP he just wasn't cutting it skills-wise. A week or so ago, someone shared a stacked bar chart of each MBB/Big 4 firm that highlighted the percentage of consultants that say they work 40, 50, 60 hours etc a week at each firm. For people with clean records -what’s the rationale for waiting until a background check to clear before giving notice? I keep seeing it mentioned but I what’s the risk? To my knowledge it’s not like a cleared background check protects you from your new firm rescinding an offer…is the goal to minimize gaps between paychecks?
