Tell me about it, we started back today. It doesn't feel real yet that this is my life until June, again.
Rising Star
My God...this is what we are now. We are the only profession ON THE PLANET that "can't believe" we have to get up in the morning and go to work. I'm sure the construction workers and police officers are all very sympathetic to us. There are some things that should never be said out loud, and this most definitely is one of them.
Maybe it’s different for you, but all my hobbies stop in mid-August. Weekends, holidays, and evenings are spent on grading and curriculum. Hobbies are for summer.
I’m the only teacher in my family, but everyone else has been commenting on how I must be sorry to see summer go. They’re the ones that bring it up. Same with my neighbors. They’re not teachers either, and like you, I hesitate to say anything because they all work through the summer. But they’ve all mentioned my end of summer break with no prompting from me. Last Sunday at church, I lost track of the number of people who paused to ask how I was adjusting to the school year. So in the end, I had to reevaluate my outlook. People just aren’t as bothered about it as I feared. And it’s consistently like that every year. Most people accept that there are ups and downs to every job, and heading back to eleven hour days after a long break is a downside for teachers.
I started August 5th!
