Slalom folks - I have my final interview tomorrow. I work in NYC with 3.5 YOE in data analytics and data visualization. Current base is 127k. Would asking for 150k be too low or high if I were to come in as consultant? Also, what is the heart expectation for raises? Thanks!

I'm not Slalom, but I'm in the final round at multiple companies, I'm going to ask for an absurd amount. Worst case they say no. I made the mistake at my current job by not negotiating.

Know your worth because they will not.

Do not give them the time of day unless the recruiter gives you an acceptable range the first time you speak.

Joined last year at $135k with 4.5 YoE in NYC. In this market I would definitely ask for $150k. Market has adjusted and now I’m forced to leave to get market value since raises are historically small.

Going through my first cycle now so not sure. Based on this app and talking to co-workers though raises seem to typically be 2-4% which I knew coming in.

From my experience at C, it's likely on the high side and in solid SC territory, but might be possible given NYC COL. Like the others have said, it's worth asking but be prepared for the response.

Yes

Ask for more. 23k is a great increase at your income level but it hardly changes anything. Got for 170. Maybe you get 160

Thinking of switching employers. Do you think bigger retail stores (the ones that have several locations) are easier or harder to work at than little hole-in-the-wall grocery stores (which is all I've ever done)? Additional Posts in Compensation in Consulting

Hi Sharks 🦈,

Need some suggestions: My current company is on a layoff spree and 2 rounds are already done and I can foresee another round coming very soon.

While I am trying to switch to other companies, I’m not able to reveal the real reason from my side for the job change, as if I say, it’s because of layoff fears than it’ll reduce my negotiation power.

What other reasons can I give as I’ve just completed 9 months here and it’s too soon for any other company to take me in.

I have an interview with Korn Ferry for an associate principal role and am curious about others’ experiences have been with work-life balance here. Also, I have an idea of what I should be compensated in this type of role, but any insights on how they pay compared to others would be helpful. Are you traveling during the pandemic or have client interactions been virtual? Lastly, if you are a consultant here, are you on billable hours? My current consulting role is not - so this would be new.
