Slightly philosophical one: Whats’s the purpose of finance in your company - control, insight, or enablement? I used to think “control” but over time I realized that the best finance teams actually enable the business to move faster.

I would say a combination of insight, which leads to enablement. Businesses need to make money to keep the doors open, knowing what is coming in and going out helps to make the best decision possible to keep those lights on.

Lots of insight at my company. We work very close with operations and do quite a bit of projections and initiative forecasting.

Margins, margins, margins. That’s all I’ve heard over the past year.

Is IB worth the sacrifice of WLB? Obvious pay is really good but are the prestige and pay worth it if you’re planning on only doing it for a couple years?

Currently working at an IRA with great WLB. Honestly I love my job, the firm, and people I work with.

Also doing MBA part time at a T15 school. Thinking about switching to IB but I’ve done my research and I think I would burn out of IB in two years but I might be ok with that for the opportunities after.

Is there such things as FP&A positions in Big 4? If so, are there better times to make the change than others (I.e. at senior vs manager)? I’m currently in FP&A and looking to work at a Big 4, or another company that offers the ability to move abroad. My current company and many others I know about do not offer the mobility to do so until much later, which is not what I want. Thank you.

Need career advice. Trying to break into a finance role, preferably an Analsyt role but I have no transferable experience. I worked as a mortgage loan officer (which is sales) for 2 years after college, but since mortgage is such a niche industry, no hard skills transfer and have no relevant undergrad internships unfortunately. I know I can essentially get any sales job I want in finance IE: financial advisor etc. but don’t want to be stuck in sales forever. Any advice?
