It would be problematic, I typically need to juggle things around in terms of time. So being stuck in someone's office and having to be doing just one thing without any flexibility would be more or less disastrous. Btw, from what I'd heard, part of Amazon's strategy was to clean house anyway, they assume they'll shed staff by doing this.

I agree! I think their strategy to clean house is written between the lines and they are hoping the employees leaving will do it for them.
I helped with RTO at my previous company. A lot of employers are doing this for two reasons:
1. Easy way to get rid of employees if you’re overstaffed without having to lay anyone off
2. Companies are paying rent on empty offices
It got so bad at my previous company that our parent company made us downsize and work and share desks!

I understand that some companies take advantage of letting the employees show themselves out the door with little to no effort by the company, but the bigger question is why did you leave the company?
Oh I can assure you that the employees that have been fully remote all this time are looking for new employment. I have several friends who work there that are really upset about being forced back into the office. I have a friend who just recently accepted a role full time remote there so I wonder how that will affect him because that was part of his contract.

That is quite a pickle. I'm sure there are other companies watching what happens with this and if Amazon will achieve the results they want.
