We have a good chance of losing more local jobs if other countries respond with tariffs on US Services.
As soon as you broke out math you lost them unfortunately 😔
I just text him this info. He said that this is news to him and his administration, and he will work on a tariff on remote foreign labor.
He wants to reward you for your knowledge. Can you post your SSN and credit card number?
What makes you think Trump cares about losing jobs?
Exporting labor is a sin against your blood
What if I live in a multicultural and ethnic society?
I thought we wanted free markets?
On yeah give me some more of that sweet sweet $10 an hour Indian labor straight into my veins
I txted him, I got you
Noooo I love offshoring manufacturing and labor it makes my QQQ go up. Those unemployed poor high school people in the Midwest deserve to stay poor, who cares? The foreign country and people that I have personal affiliations have been benefiting from the status quo over the past few decades.
You must be an evil person
To level set. My current understanding is the tariff’s are on goods. The US currently has a trade surplus on services and those are not being taxed, at least as of yet. There is noise from the EU this morning they will be looking at imposing tariffs on services. This will open up a can of worms on service tariffs which could crush the margins on US offshoring and exporting services (call centers etc). You can extrapolate the impact and it will probably not be good.
It is more of a dialectic in which we might have a shortage and demand destruction simultaneously as tariffs bite the economy. Just my view - but certainly interesting times.
I’ve no doubt that we are being treated unfairly by some countries, but most of those are likely immaterial. The major exception is Mexico.
Mexico has intentionally lured Chinese investment in the $ billions to take advantage of its trade agreement with the US. Problem: Semiconductors imported from China had a 34% tariff in 2020. Solution: Move the plant to Mexico.
I’m betting Mexico was advised by some consultants on how to do this.
IF we bring back manufacturing jobs then obvioulsy the white collar jobs will follow--
white collar jobs follow blue collar jobs.... don't worry all boats will rise
What will happen due to Trump policy by imposing Tariffs on foreign countries, American Businessmen will manufacture in China and sell outside the US. Keep their money outside and gaining high-yield income selling in countries like Dubai, Australia; and etc.
So do we really think that given the labor unions here in the US and the attitude from blue collar workers who want all sorts of benefits, that the US manufactured goods can be produced at a competitive price?
Who would be willing to pay a premium for... let's say tools of any kind that say MADE in the USA as opposed to getting the cheaply made Chinese tools that we currently have on the market. The seles price would go up ten fold in order to approach the margins that are currently being enjoyed by tool retailers currently. If any "manufacturing" comes back to the US, it would have to be in an industry that cannot be easily replicated.
