CeraVe and Cetaphil have a variety of products good for any skin type. The brands are highly recommended by dermatologists and can be found in drugstores, grocery, etc. I'd recommend checking out as a start:
- A daytime moisturizer with sunscreen
- A nighttime moisturizer or cream
- A cleanser formulated for your skin concerns and skin type
Second all this ☝🏼☝🏼
Rodan and Fields is #1 in several categories for a reason. For your age and easy/basic preference, our recharge regimen might be perfect. I’m guessing you know someone that can hook you up, but if not I’m happy to help. Email me at rodanandfieldsfish@gmail.com. I give 10% off to all 🐠 clients
Sorry, Is it a secret that R+F is a home consultant biz? Yes I have a small team, but I became a rep after falling in love with the products and have hundreds of clients who have better skin because of our high quality products. Everyone on this app is always looking for side hustles yet y’all sneer at anyone who stoops so low to consider direct sales. I’m sorry if you’ve been burned or annoyed by others - lord knows there are some sketchy ones out there. But Please know not all who rep products are in it to take advantage of their friends.
Ok rant over
Should also mention that I’m male!
TLDR anything you realize will give your skin a reaction! Salicylic acid is usually present in acne fighting products, which is something you don't need since you mentioned not having an acne issue. Retinol which I think is also known as vitamin A, can make your skin more sensitive to sun so you'd have to use that alongside sunscreen.
Oh, and agree that cetaphil is a great starter place if you’re looking for something super basic to just keep you clean
My routine (26M, combination + sensitive skin) developed through excessive trial and error of many products:
1) Cleanser (use in morning and evening before bed): Roche-Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser
2) Toner (use in morning after cleanser): Mario Badescu Facial Spray (Aloe, Herbs, Rosewater)
3) Moisturizer (use in morning post-toner and evening post-cleanser): Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture Sensitive Skin
I have other misc. spot treatments for various issues but they aren’t part of my regular routine
One of the other most important things I’d say is minimizing the products you put on before bed because you don’t want excessive stuff smearing all over the pillow
This is probably redundant but also look into your non-skincare habits such as diet, exercise, sleep routine, etc. Personally, I've found staying hydrated and keeping my hands off my face has helped more than certain products.
That being said, with skincare products I believe less is more. Don't feel like you need a 10 step routine!
Yup! And to echo what others have said, moisturizer and sunscreen are good essentials. Also, you'll find out there's physical and chemical sunscreens. Basically, physical is more environmentally friendly than chemical. La Roche Posay, All Good, and Supergoop are good brands.
For any moisturizer/cream/oil, I like to apply it while my face is damp. I feel like the actual moisture from the water gets locked in by the product and honestly makes application smoother and easier.
You need a cleanser and a moisturizer with sunscreen and an exfoliant. Cetaphil is a drugstore brand cleanser that is great. I use tatcha rice polish exfoliant and then their moisturizer in the blue jar in winter and the water cream in summer. Supergoop makes a sunscreen called unseen sunscreen that is the best- goes on great and doesn’t feel gross. So - cetaphil, rice polish, moisturizer and sunscreen. You can get everything other than the cetaphil at Sephora.
Pro tip - if you see a dermatologist, they can write you a prescription for these products and then you can FSA it. E.g. Kiehls, Cetaphil etc.
Sunday riley has fantastic morning and night routine sets. HOWEVER they are pricey and involve a lot of products.
