I'm a frequent traveler with lifetime status on Marriott and Hilton. Neither program is great (I miss Starwood), but Marriott is everywhere I want to go. If you use your rewards in Asia or Europe, you can get some nice perks on Marriott. Hyatt is great, but too limited in destinations to be my primary.
Agree with this. I'm confident there will always be a great Marriott property for any vacation destination we choose, so racking up the spend / points with that program has always paid off.
Switched from Marriott to Hyatt. Much smaller program and tier 2/3 city offerings aren’t as good but the rewards are much better.

Good to know about the rewards.
I’ve had some good rewards with Bonvoy in the Caribbean and coupled with the Ritz Carlton Credit card some nice perks. I just keep my bar set low

👍

I have a lifetime status with them. No complaints with respect to any kind of work travel.

I go with them for any work travel. As someone stated, they are everywhere.
Just because have permanent status, I select more interesting local hotels as long as the price is right for personal travel.

Marriott Gold Elite is the true base tier and you'll probably have it through a credit card. You don't get any real advantages other than free upgraded wifi until you're in Platinum or Titanium. That said I prefer Marriott because the mobile check-in and mobile key almost always works (rarely ever need to visit the front desk unless super early and the room isn't ready) whereas Hyatt and others are still inconsistent with regard to mobile keys. If you don't mind going to the front desk and having to use a keycard instead of your phone if that particular hotel isn't updated, most of the programs are about the same. For me I prefer Marriott due to the "reliably being able to walk directly to my room and avoid talking to anyone" factor.

Gotcha, not such a deal breaker for me

Hyatt is by far the best program, but make sure the smaller footprint works.
It means they have less properties and options around the world

Marriott Titanium here. I love Marriott hotels and how vast they are but their loyalty has changed in the past decade. I’ve heard a lot of people switching to Hyatt. I haven’t yet because I prefer Marriott caliber over Hyatt (but if anyone here who switched to Hyatt has stayed at a great Hyatt, please share)!

As a Marriott lifetime Titanium, I made Hyatt my first choice several ago and have few regrets. Hyatt definitely treats elites better than Marriott, especially the top status. A perk I always appreciate is that when using points for stays, you aren't hit up with resort fees or parking. Also, free breakfast with status includes room service.
Since you have lifetime with Marriott, it won't hurt to try out the competition.
I think Marriott is still the dominant leader just based on sheer volume of options. The points are devaluing but that is happening across all travel rewards
