What a nice spin on nepotism!

As the saying goes, a guilty conscience needs no accuser. Case in point.

The fact he needed to mention that clearly indicates it isn’t true.

I have a chart of analysts to MDs. A baby Alvarez is coming up in the firm now.

Truth, I’ve made a habit of when I roll onto a new team I check our email lists to see if any of the junior folks have the same last name as one of our partners.

Picked up that habit after finding out one of my managers dad was a partner a little to late getting an awkward call from someone on your teams dad is not fun lol.

One of my closest friends has an uncle who was a PwC partner that kept repeatedly offering her a job at every family reunion even after he retired, and she just kept turning him down since she was perfectly happy pursuing her career in a completely different field and had zero interest/experience in tax or accounting.

Since when do you need a family relationship to get into PwC?

You could get a CPA 😂
I even know people who got in because they said they were studying for their CPA. High bar.

Now everyone none Mr.Partner 🤡

Sure, but that doesn’t mean it’s a fair process, nor should the entry of this new ‘son of’ be celebrated in the same way.

In this thread is a bunch of so-called business professionals 💩 ing on a 22-year old kid who got his first job. Pathetic.

Family relationships got me 2 interviews over 30 years. One I botched, the other I got a junior individual contributor role from.

I used to see people who didn't care about current events or politics as intellectually lazy and irresponsible.

However, I feel burnt out on the constant stream of divisive bickering and toxicity.

It feels like ideas don't matter and pragmatism has become a dirty word for both sides.

For the first time in my life, I don't want to know what's happening in the world and I don't care who wins.

Apathy feels good right now.

I have a business idea in the VR/AR space utilizing AI. However, I lack skill sets to evaluate viability or to create an MVP. Neither do I have a network to tap into.

My plan is taking classes to deepen my knowledge while joining and actively participating in communities to find collaborators.

Does this approach make sense or do you recommend other approaches? If it makes sense, do you have any recommendations for classes or communities?

Look forward to hearing your experiences and wisdom!

Any craft beer brewers here?

In the last two year I’ve gotten more and more into alcohol free beer. The selection in my country (Europe) is still small and mainly driven by the big brands (e.g. Heineken). My idea is to start my own small brewery which only produces alcohol free beer as a bit of a pendant to the booming local craft beer industry. Any thoughts on that idea or someone who has experience in the market?

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
