I used to see people who didn't care about current events or politics as intellectually lazy and irresponsible.

However, I feel burnt out on the constant stream of divisive bickering and toxicity.

It feels like ideas don't matter and pragmatism has become a dirty word for both sides.

For the first time in my life, I don't want to know what's happening in the world and I don't care who wins.

Apathy feels good right now.

Agree wholeheartedly. I used to follow current events and politics enthusiastically for many years. But, now it’s all so depressing with such great division, that I am putting my head in the sand and have been trying to have a news blackout. Achieving common ground is now impossible, even though there are normal people out there willing to compromise. Instead our country is being held hostage by extremists on both sides. Progress seems utterly hopeless and I fear for our country’s future. The abortion mess is just the next chapter—and the most important and solemn institution—SCOTUS has now been compromised. I honestly find it easier to ignore it all and lose myself in sports or movies. Just being honest

I find that people are way more practical in local government (with some notable exceptions).

My concern is always when the national political circus bleeds over into local school boards, for example.

Can’t compromise with extremists

like

Extremists on both sides. I hate when people use labels like “leftist” or “woke” when extremists on the right do not get the same negative connotations.
If anything, the right extremists play with other people’s lives - “I don’t like abortion but I also don’t support universal healthcare or right for free education”.

I'm a Ukrainian and lived most of my adult life in Russia. My parents are still in Russia (I'm in the US). I'm also a pro-abortion female.

Deleted my Facebook and stopped following all news outlets.

Sorry friend. Hope everyone you know is safe and sound.

I know exactly what you mean. Used to be obsessed with staying up to date on current events. That’s all change with mass spread of information within seconds. Being on platforms like Twitter doesn’t help.

like

Unfortunately, when the reasonable people get tired and drop out, the extremists are left to pass our laws. At least stay mildly up-to-date and vote against anything radical 🥲

like

Always. I can't remember the last time I voted for a single party all the way down the ballot.

National politics is just bickering back and forth, grand standing and making promises with no intent to keep them. If people really want change and to have affect they need to focus on local elections.

like

I used to be involved in politics and after I realized that many of them were either in bed with each other or doing things for clout, I stopped caring as much. Now I focus on my local elections, like the sheriff or the county executor or the city Council races… I don’t even care who is the president anymore or who my senators are. They don’t truly care about me so I don’t take the time to care about them

like

We may be confusing News from Politics, which is easy in this time of crap reporting. It takes work to find objective news. Please make the effort and be informed. Even something that doesn’t provide as much detail, like Axios, is a good compromise. Local news too if you can.

Currently sitting in my sweatpants with a full groutfit. Rediscovered a pair of blue sweatpants that I left at my parent’s place during the holidays and brought that back. Have a similarly colored soft blue hoodie that I wear with it. Now I alternate between my groutfit and bloutfit biweekly to synchronize with my laundry schedule. I go outside wearing it too. Should I be proud or concerned???

Every night for like the past month I’ve been getting incredibly emotional about adulthood. I miss the lack of responsibility, the simplicity of life, friends were always around, and less pressure to be successful.

I’m 3 years out of college now so it’s not like I just started doing this stuff, but I am feeling the exact same feeling as I did when I first started work and just wanted to be back in college. I know I just need to grow up and accept that’s how life is but it’s incredibly upsetting
