The ad industry is represented by less than 2% of self-identified LGBTQ individuals. We're asking our fellow LGBTQ peers who have already come out to work to share their stories and to describe how being out at work has benefitted them. Record your story and upload it to tinyurl.com/come-out-to-work Stories will be collected and shared on Instagram at @ComeOutToWork by mid-June. Happy Pride!

A lot of my peers are not out at work for a variety of reasons. I know the numbers are much higher than reported just from my own network. I came out 10 years into my career. It’s still taboo and I absolutely get asked the most ridiculous questions because I don’t “look gay.” If you ask people that I casually work with, I’m certain they assume that I’m straight.
That number seems low, what’s the source on 2% in ad industry?
I’m not challenging the intent or purpose. I love it. I just think the 2% is wrong and your campaign is just as strong without the 2% number. And maybe even stronger with how many states still have anti gay laws.
Is 2% high/low? Are there metrics available on what the %’s in the overall adult population are nationwide?
Thanks for asking. According to Gallup, in 2020 the overall % of LGBT in the US is 5.6%. However, Millennials are 9.1% and GenZ is 15.9%
I get the intent and support it, I am not sure on the numbers to support it
Sure!
This is awesome. Thank you so much for sharing.
