For me, it has really exposed just how much of the professional world consists of fake-it-to-make-it grifters driven entirely by wealth and with no interesting or compelling ideas of their own.
For sure. Not just in our industry.
Rising Star
It’s demand creation.
AI is (currently) vaporware. The world had a collective 😲 moment when ChatGPT rolled out, and stakeholders are trying to convince everyone that 😲 is increasing, rather than decreasing.
It is decreasing.
But the incentive to convince everyone that it’s increasing is, as we’ve seen, significant.
Rising Star
Basically. It’s a grifter gold rush. I think AI will long term be a real thing but not anytime soon.
Also, while it’s going to absolutely tank the economy short term, I can’t wait for this bubble to pop.
I’d say it’s more 1) fear of looking out of touch so just stay marginally ahead of latest trend and 2) boosting personal relevance by jumping on whatever with lukewarm takes.
Can’t find the meme but it was something like “reading a post on LinkedIn is the equivalent of unreading 5 books” - it’s insufferable.
The comments on that video are so cringe inducing. they’re so banally sycophantic, they read like AI too. Slop loving slop.
“A business can take years to build and minutes to destroy. Careful who you let in” message at the end feels like a dark premonition for advertising fml
AI hate is such a lazy critique.
If the storytelling is weak or the visuals don’t hold up, sure, criticize that. But why the blanket “AI bad” reaction?
CGI got the same brain-dead treatment for decades: “It’s not real, it’s CGI.” Cool. People saying that usually had zero idea how brutally hard good CGI actually is.
Same thing now with AI. Getting a result that’s usable, consistent, and actually says something takes real effort. A lot of artists spend weeks building workflows with cgi softwares and comfy ui just to control the chaos.
And even if someone uses mostly ready-made tools like Veo 3, it’s still not “press button, masterpiece.” Making a coherent story, keeping characters consistent, working within limitations, iterating around failures… that’s exactly why you see way more bad shorts than good ones.
So yeah: critique the work. Let creators improve. Tools will evolve.
But if your only contribution is “AI = trash,” you’re not protecting art. You’re just warming up for the next thing to hate.
Yes. It does.
You want us to do what exactly?
as someone who despises wpp's AI tech, I agree that the glazing is cringe. you hit the nail on the head with the word "tatse." This tech has zero taste. It literally is incapable of it. It has data. There's a difference betwen the two. AFAIC it is faking creativity.
Unfortunately, until the bubble pops, employers like ours will continue to push it on us. So I say get good at faking faking it for now, if you know what I mean.
It's not just a bubble. Just because there was a Dotcom bubble didn't mean the internet didn't still completely change our lives. There may be a bubble, but AI will still change things a lot. But rn it's a trendy thing to talk about, everyone wants to seem like they know what they're talking about.
Who said it would go away?
The bubble = the obscene unsustainable overspending/loss cycle, sky high valuations, hype, overpromising of what it can do, companies making questionable moves contrary to their core competency just to glom onto the AI investing fervor, the whole thing propping an otherwise shaky economy. Etc.
That’s a bubble.
Personally I load short stories into ChatGPT and pull them apart and reassemble them into scripts and prompts and then load them into video generators and turn original short stories into film. This is novel. To me at least. But I've always thought LinkedIn was 100% garbage. All linked influencers suck.
I do my best not to actively hate on LI.
