Small business owners who want to rebuild in Minneapolis are first hit with huge bills just to haul away the debris left when "peaceful protesters" burned down their businesses. Large areas will look like war zones for the foreseeable future. This is Joe Biden's America.

Fascinating article and remarkably still relevant 10 years later.

Pro
JD Vance has all of the conviction and principled stands of a weathervane. Same for Rubio and all of the Republicans loyally serving Trump. And they can't and won't stand up and do what's right and best for our country under Trump, I don't see how anyone with two brain cells believe they are worthy of holding the office of the President themselves.

Well we certainly need change because the politics of today don’t work for the majority of Americans. But as long as money is entrenched in our politics, typically backing incumbents, it’s going to be difficult to initiate and sustain substantial policy changes. I still think a moderate is going to be needed to clinch the nomination, but pro-social policies are going to be needed to win the election. Sanders has run twice only to lose the establishment candidate. 2024 was an oddity because it felt like voting for the least- worst candidate (which was still Harris but she suffered from being part of the Biden admin). The irony is that the Trump campaign ran on a populist message but has done the exact opposite, whereas I think Harris would’ve embraced parts of the socialist movement. I the success of NY will be a marker for 2028, while there’s rightful frustration with the status quo, there’s the larger question if our capitalistic operating model needs significant reform, something closer to the Nordic countries (which imo is where we need to go).

There is more to JD Vance than meets the eye. The reality is that if Trump goes down for any reason, he’ll be president or acting as president. I’m a lot less scared of that than I am of two more years of Trump. Maybe I’m grasping at straws here, but at least he was against the Iran War and he’s one of the people trying to negotiate a peace.
