Same! 20+ years on consulting and agencies now. Clients can be like game of thrones with each other. Especially these days. I’m watching client directors and VP’s actively sabotage each other. It’s a hoot until they turn on the consultants…

Yeah - it’s a wonder we can keep the lights on.

It’s a cesspit of epic decline.

Feel like this is a half baked viewpoint. Easy to critique from slides—harder to execute in the real world. Their talent isn’t subpar, they’re operating inside constraints consultants rarely own

Everything is pretend nothing is real

Agreed. Most corporate environments struggle with strategy formulation, data-driven analysis, and execution. Add AI to the mix and it becomes chaotic to say the least.

Would love to hear thoughts on best approach of you are a senior associate at V10 firm. Do you just become counsel until they tell you that partnership is not in the cards or do you try to hop to the first partnership (equity, or at least NEP with clear progression to equity if you bring in some business) opportunity at a say V50 firm. I’m not home grown at my current firm, but do have a small book currently.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
