I was in your exact shoes 4 years ago. The best advice I ever got was: If you aren't a superstar then lateral to where you are. In my case I made partner at a V20 but had to fight for it and only made it after 10 years and bringing in 700k of work. I decided to take my clients and leave once I realized I wasn't really appreciated (even as a partner). Now I make more money and am much happier.
Love this.

Probably depends on the firm. Mine doesn’t seem to make partners from the counsel ranks (at least in the last several years in my transactional practice). Has the V10 told you that you won’t make partner there?
Much appreciated. Right now it may just be helpful for me to get the name on my resume and build a client base. Not sure where I would be a “superstar” but would be willing to go to a firm that is looking to grow out the practice.
A year ago, I joined a firm as a senior associate at a firm that started to grow out my practice area. It’s been great. Fun to develop the practice together and I’m considered a superstar here. Highly recommend this route.
