The recruiter told me $140k was the absolute hard ceiling, but their own job posting lists the range up to $185k. When I called them out, they claimed the top of the range is strictly reserved for candidates who fulfill 100% of the nice-to-have requirements, including a laundry list of niche certifications. Bait-and-switch. How do you handle it when a company flat-out refuses to honor the salary transparency ranges they publish?

My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. The pay will likely be much better and the position holds more responsibility than I’ve had before, so overall it would be a step up. I’ve been working at a rather prestigious midsized firm in a big city for almost a year and a half now. I have been having a lot of trouble picking up work from senior partners. We are required to bill at least 150 hours per month to meet our requirement. My months are typically only 110-130 hours. It seems like the senior partners already have their “go to” associate for things. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can increase my workload? I reach out for work pretty much weekly.
