Anti-American. Anti-Constitution. Permit me to directly quote the First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." Goodnight and shut the lights off.
Rising Star
That’s going to get struck down just like the funding to the religious charter school did.
Raise your hand if you want to teach bible studies for $41K when you can drive south 1 hour and give yourself a $28K raise
All states should require this. This country was founded on the Bible. I say go for it and bring back the pledge In God We Trust!!!!
It’s like the Oklahoma Land Rush: since SCOTUS has turned right, people like Walters are rushing forward to grab as much “land” as they can to plant their religious, bigoted, anti-LGBTQ, etc., flags. Even if they lose in court, in the end, they have publicized their intent and beliefs and won over converts as they maneuver for the next battle. And if they win, they target where the next land rush will happen.
I don't think the people enacting these laws really intend for them to take place right away. They know they are unconstitutional, and they'll lead to lawsuits. But, they figure this is the best opportunity they may ever get to impose their religious beliefs on everyone, and the courts may go along with some of this stuff. So they're going to give it a try.
Yes, the political throw it at the wall to see if it'll stick. Then, if it doesn't, glue the corners.
I’m really curious about how Songs of Solomon will go over in elementary classrooms. Is that part foundational to the camp followers and New York’s Holy Ground in the Revolutionary War?
Yup, I’m still confused.
He’s now threatening teachers with the loss of their teaching license if they don’t comply. I’m not sure what country I’m living in! 😮
I think that’s illegal— talk with your union!!!!!!
Christian nationalists are whack. They don't even know what's in the Bible and they insist on the lie that Christianity is "what our country was founded on." Uhh, the Puritans wanted religious freedom which is why they left England and it's mandatory religion. Duh.
Not only that, but not everyone on the Mayflower even had the same religion, for example. And once they landed in here, the different ways of worshipping soon led to the people creating different churches. It’s not like every Puritan was in lockstep with each other about religion.
Yeah, this reeks of a publicity stunt.
Clearly an effective one.
Lawsuits starting in august. I say we go full tilt and change street names after bible figures and bring back garments and robes.
What, specifically, are they teaching? The entire Bible, or just the basic ideas within and that it had an influence over the founding fathers? I don’t think public school teachers make good preachers. Public schools could give an overview of the Bible including creation vs. evolution, good morals, and what Christians believe.
I was wondering if they were going to threaten to take away jobs. What if a person from a different religion wants to put up their scriptures beside the Ten Commandments. Will that be allowed? What if a person never went to church and does not know anything about teaching the Bible. Are they going to do training over the summer?
