apparently the answer is 3... as I've repeatedly been told.
Depends on the agency and the client. It's a discipline just like any other.
Been there, done it. It's terrible. Bottom of the pile agency. Purely executional channel experts.
Never hitch your wagon to an industry that depends on an algorithm
I worked at a digital agency for two years and it was amazing, different every day, big budgets to do cool shit. TV is dead. 💀
What does Glassdoor say?
Depends on the agency. Is it strictly social, is it a part of a holding company? What's the role? I've worked for one and it was amazing but it wasn't limited to social, but looked to leverage social to amplify OOH, Digital, etc activations.
You'll learn the ins and outs of social, but if it's one note (or organic, but no paid; focused on likes, not activations; structured more to do PR than influencer based), you might be better off at a an agency with a stronger social presence that focuses on other avenues, digital, TV, creative, etc
H&S1 Glassdoor says cool culture / clients but Senior Management is lacking. I feel like that's a common critique so have to take it with a grain of salt. More worried about being surrounded by people who think social is the most important thing in the world. Am I just stereotyping? I love working on traditional but no one seems to be hiring for TV heavy integrated accounts right now ahhhhh
I've heard pay is low
Is it We Are Social ?
If it's We Are Social, I've worked with a number of people who are there now and they were amazing to work with. Working previously at an social only shop, no one was ever in the mindset that social was (especially as it was something very new, and growing) that it wasn't the greatest thing it the world. But it has shaped the field more in the past 10 years where you can't not consider or understand how important it is to reach an audience, particularly if they are younger.
The ad & marketing world is shifting more social so it's important to understand how to best leverage it to get your client's messaging across. That way, if you are able to get a more TV heavy integrated role, you'd understand how best to amplify that message across social
