Thank y’all for the support. Got a call from a friend and I already landed a freelance gig. Good advices from all of you. I usually use FB for fun, but it helps in this way too.
Being laid off is the worst. It fucks you up emotionally and makes you feel like a worthless failure.
The feelings you feel right now are quite possibly the most powerful feelings you’ll ever feel in your life. Anger, resentment and sadness, confusion and fear breed massive live changes. They’re the fertile soil from which new lives are grown. Understand you’ll find a new job. Understand you’ve gone through more stressful things in your life. But don’t let yourself not feel your feelings, because right now, for the first time in a long time your future is undetermined. How exciting is that?
Where are you based? Maybe we can help with any leads.
OP - I was laid off too, and am now freelancing, and am also pregnant. I am realizing I will probably have to finance my own maternity leave rather than having it covered by a company. It sucks, but I recently talked to a few other freelancers who have made it work. I’m sure we will be able to figure it out too.
This too shall pass
Had a friend in the same position. They ended up freelancing for ages and now make more $$. It’s not as creative, but it’s what’s most important right now. Everything will work out.
Did they know you were pregnant? If so you might want to check with employment attorney.
Sorry that sucks.
So sorry, that is really scary. Jobs bowl has a lot of recruiters!
Yes, name your city maybe we can help
If you’re in nyc the job market is really good right now!!!! Think of this as an opportunity.
All I can say about the layoff is to try and not let it get you down. Use it as an opportunity to reevaluate what you want in your next job/life and see it as a positive thing that allows you to go find a job you want
@CD1best advice I've seen in the bowl. Keep it up.
You absolutely should check-in with an employment lawyer. Even if it’s just negotiating a couple months of severance. You owe it to yourself.
