Remote presentation? Have a dual screen, put one behind your camera. Script out what you’ll say and read off of it.

Practice to sound natural. This is what I do and I actually get positive comments on my presentation.

I write out bullets and speak through it several times out loud. Remember- you probably know more about the topic than the audience, be confident

This one word will change your life. Propranolol. It will completely eliminate all the symptoms, fast heart beating, sweating, etc. You will, for lack of a better phrase, be regular. Eventually, a few days, your mind will catch up once it realizes that your physical symptoms don’t happen anymore. Then-> peak performance. Take it about 45 mins prior and you’ll be good. I used to have panic attacks and sh*t if I had to speak or give a presentation. Literally prepping like crazy the night before marking sure I had it word for word. Now, you could literally tell me I need to give a Ted talk to 1million people in 1 hour on a topic that I don’t even know well. I’d have no reaction whatsoever. No chest thumping, nothing, just a general indifference to it.

Beta blockers ftw. Will also improve your golf game too

Do you have to be on camera/in person? If not, detailed presentation notes help me a lot!

Other than that, a bunch of dry runs. I also like to pretend that it’s just me explaining something to my associate.

Awh did ZS delete his or her insensitive comment?

Anyhoooo OP, YOU GOT THIS. I recommend a few dry runs just in front of your webcam or mirror. After a few, it just get ingrained in your head and feels more natural when you’re in the moment.

like

Perspective. Recognize it’s only x minutes of your day and it’ll be over after that.

I also just have the mindset always as “this doesn’t really matter” which makes me feel calm during all presentations. it’s not an optimistic view, but it works for me.

So I was offered a role in Strategy Consulting in after 2 years in Risk Consulting however, after 2 years I’ve only worked on Internal audit engagements few ad hocs such as updating risk register and the delegation of authority matrix.

Honestly speaking I am doing good and I am up for promotion in October however I am not fully enjoying my time but I fear that the move would not be a good and I can’t hit the ground running which scares me.

Any advice and past experiences in such career shit?

Suggestions needed. Got offer from other Big4s with same money offer. Got to talk to very great partners, and practices/work-life balance are very similar across all 3 firms. Currently more toward DT but only cuz I know more people there so I feel less nervous going there. When it comes to turning down offers, what other professional reasons can I provide?

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

Have new analyst on the team with an MBA and project experience. After working with them for 2 months it’s apparent that there are 0 consulting skills (excel, outlook, PowerPoint) and they freeze up even on internal calls. They are young and coachable, and I offered to put time into that. However at a company event they made no effort to get to know the team and chose to stick to their familiar colleagues in their home office. I’d like to ask for a new resource but interested in feedback.

At what point do you draw the line on WLB? Working insane hours on a long/term project with what feels like no end in sight. It’s not sustainable but clearly expected. Could you get fired for drawing lines in the sand and saying (example) “come 8:30 every night I’m logging off”. That’s a 65 hour work week as-is but I currently am up until midnight working consistently. For context I’ve been rated as a strong performer consistently and am not new to the job so it’s not a lack of understanding.

Looking for recommendations on a good book/resource on how to manage people, especially when you’re managing teams to achieve tight deadlines and also overall leadership for those teams. Currently on a project with tight regulatory deadlines and feel like I’m struggling to push people without pissing them off. Great learning curve for me and a good read seems timely. TIA!
