I hate it when an ECD who actively tries to kill an idea but the client buys it anyway, it wins awards and the ECD gets the credit.
Wait
You’ll go far in this business; you’ve got nothing but integrity to hold you back!
Haha well put
Mind the business that pays you.
Anyone on my team who worked a weekend or a late night is undoubtedly going on the credits. Even if it’s not their idea.
No one’s saying people shouldn’t get credit. But the moral thing is to be honest about your role.
Or should a creative who helped on two social posts go around saying they wrote the platform line and the TVCs, CD3?
My favorite part is when these creatives use that work to get a job where they actually have to deliver and immediately nose dive
Only put up work you have done.
This is a ‘one strike, you’re out’ thing for me. I will 100% stop you from getting a job wherever I’m working if you lie about the things in your book.
One thing I’ve seen young people do now is lie about their roles at agencies, like putting a much higher title on their LinkedIn than what they were…and I report every one of them to LinkedIn.
I wish you a lot of billable jobs in the months to come, Producer 1. Good luck!
Act this way and no one will want to help you. Is that really worth it?
Lots of that here too but unfortunately they do fool lots of people.
As someone who has work stolen by ppl who are completely irreverent to the project I support this… they even just download the mockups I bought for my own website and case study and put on their own websites lol.
You mean “irrelevant”?
This has to be about CDs and ECDs, right? Cause in all my years of experience, it was lower level writers and art directors who ideated and visualized entire campaigns. All CDs and ECDs do is put their name on it.
I would be a little more empathetic towards younger people in our industry when it comes to this issue if I'm honest. Competition for roles is ridiculous, and if padding your CV a little helps you get a job and keep a roof over your head, I really don't see the problem.
Junior strats and creatives, realistically, don't have that much work to their names - and most hiring managers look at length of CV over anything else. For me, it's a morally acceptable choice that harms nobody, to give people a better chance to find good work and keep their lives moving.
That happened to me at McCann and they contacted the guy and he took it down by adding a password to his portfolio. I really appreciated McCann getting involved though…
He had been previously fired BTW
