I enjoy accounting but despise all the nonsense that comes with working in an office. I'm friends with a lot of admins, so I hear about chaos all the time.
Internal or with clients?
During busy season, the hours are insane. 50 per week is about average year round, up to 90 per week at the peak.
When I first started with Big 4, I despised both the hours and the salary. The total income was quite nice, but the rate/hour was terrible, especially when you compare how much you bill the customer to how much you really earn.
I can't think of three right now, but I do have one. When you head into industry, you are not valued. I was warned about this in college, so I expected it, but it still bothers me now and again. I work with O&G, and there is usually a considerable difference in how they approach operational divisions vs corporate groups.
Also I hate the titles they provide to decrease the payout amount.
I hate my job as a government accountant. I'm surrounded by people that accomplish nothing, are always late, or never show up at all because they call off every other day. I'm the youngest by several years. Even after requesting my supervisor for more responsibilities, I still have an inadequate amount of work to do.
Also have you tried seeking new employment?
I've been in the industry for a long time. Even though I got used to the job there are certain things that I really hate the most in the industry. I hate the tedious tasks. Accounting can involve a lot of repetitive tasks, such as data entry or reconciliations, which can be monotonous and time-consuming.
