Underpaid? I’m a 7th year lawyer in a small 4 lawyer plaintiff First party property and PI firm in South Florida. 120 base + 40% comm’s solelyon originations. No Insurance. We are starting 401k this year. I joined this firm several years ago because i lateraled with a solid book that has since come down quite considerably because of the nature of first party in FL. Thinking about asking for a restructure at a minimum or moving firms. I really like the work environment which makes this difficult.

For the size of firm you are doing really well for your YOE. How many hours are you working each year you think?

like

Seems pretty good for hours worked. There aren’t a lot of 9-5 private practice jobs. What is your alternative, start your own shop? I have some friends who did that at about your YOE and it worked out well for them.

The last 2 years were good. These places structure it this way. It’s good when it’s good but really hurts when it’s not. I don’t know what they would restructure. 40-45 hours per week in private practice isn’t bad either. Options-: 1 look for another position bc. “I want more money but I’m bringing in less and making the firm less” may not work. Or 2 see if this will be a bad year and you can rebound.

like

Adding in the 40%, what is your total comp? Will the firm contribute to the 401k?

Has varied but 368k ‘23, $300k last year

401k is 3% match and was supposed to start Jan last year but firm had a hiccup and had to switch companies so it’s set to start in q2

1099 or w-2 ? I have been given the option though the company prefers w-2. It’s a day rate booking couple of months or more (no end date). I already have 1099 from similar company this year and am leaning towards 1099, but I don’t want to be difficult. I do take home office deduction and they are not supplying any equipment. Suggestions?

Hi Fishes, Do you have any update on Genpact WFH status?

People joining TCS at Senior Consultant designation with 12 years exp, with no MBA degree or even from with exceptional experience in niche technologies is truth these days.

Existing employees with 20 years exp working on presales consulting, winning millions of dollars of projects in RFPs, delivering multi million dollar assignments are still not getting promoted and paid in peanuts

Makes me wonder if companies are really enjoying so called great resignation period. What's the thought ?

Hi guys currently I'm working in a project with very stringent timelines. Sometimes we need to put more than 13-14 hrs each day. There are 4 members in my team. Two are involved in database prt and me and my lead are involved in the front end and middle layer prt. Somehow my lead is not at all pleased with my work. And even if I try to talk to him for something he is completely rude. Sometimes it makes me that I m completely useless. Even the other team members are following the lead

It is in appropriate to ask what the compensation for a position is after a first interview if they want you to go on three more and the interviewers on my first told me that was above their pay grade to tell me?????

Seems kind of ridiculous for a business to want to waste so much time to find out after a handful of interviews that the pay isnt aligned with my needs ......

I can see in biglaw not bringing up knowing damn well if you get an offer itll likely be high, but this is a midsize
