Because they promised no layoffs till 9/30
I mean sure, and this is of course where the analogy breaks a little because of course an individual homeowner doesn’t have the power or the responsibility towards the American economy in the same way these companies do.
But to your first point, I mean of course there are political disagreements on this but I believe that you should still be paying your butler even if they don’t do anything. You can afford a multimillion dollar house and rolls Royce but can’t pay a dude who literally makes your daily life easier and your household run smoothly? Like I’m sorry but if I was in that situation I would (and I do- I have paid advances for several people whose services I use that obviously I am not at this moment) still pay them anyway not only because I have sooo much more money than them that to me personally it because somewhat unethical to not even pay them money to put food on the table if not a full wage right now, but also because I’m not trying to shoot myself in the foot and have to go find qualified butlers elsewhere after this mess is over. I don’t need the rolls Royce right now, I can just fix that later! I would use that money to help my butler or maid (and their families) not starve!
And I mean of course the HOA is saying that, because if y’all as a group of very wealthy people with really nice homes can’t even afford to keep a maid or butler because you mismanaged your own finances, how do you expect the poor maid making minimum wage to clean your bathroom to fare any better? Can’t just have an entire neighborhoods’ worth of maids and butlers running around, that would be chaos! Of course it would be nice if HOA could just help maid and butler put food on the table directly so that you could focus on paying off your rolls Royce or w/e but we don’t live in a socialist society (for the butler anyway, notice how HOA is still paying your mortgage despite claiming its every man for himself, and leaving the butler in the lurch.)
And, at the very very end of the day, even if the HOA approved the actions that you propose and it didn’t cause chaos- the simple fact of the matter is that this entire situation is caused by 2 things: 1) your not saving properly for a super expensive house and then living beyond your means, and 2) the HOA deciding to help you out and hoping you don’t fire your entire staff instead of just helping your butler out directly so you can go fix your rolls Royce in peace

The big hit is network ops, training, engineers etc at HQ. 1/3 of pilots will be cut and old plane types will be retired early so you need to cascade that change through the organization.
