You went in with the wrong mindset. Why apply for something you thought you were “too good for”? You probably thought you did a good job at hiding that feeling, but if I had to guess they were able to see it and went with a candidate that had more hunger and fire for the position. Someone who truly wanted it. Sometimes these things aren’t as black and white as you think.

Stop letting external factors affect you internally
Rejections are part of life. If I could sell 50% of my advisory opps I would be ecstatic, so I accept that best case scenario get turned down 50% of the times. Same when you sell yourself to a potentual employer. Do not take personally, figure out where you need to make adjustments to your bext pitch and move on

Went through the same thing. Had 4 rounds. Last two rounds were 4 hours each. Got a standing ovation call from the recruiter after the final review saying the team said i was a great technical and cultural fit. Thought I had it in the bag. Got a call from the recruiter saying I didn’t get the role because I mentioned I don’t like conflict (but gave multiple examples of how I resolve it). After a few days I just got over it and moved on
I’m sorry that happened. Questionable decision making on their part but oh well. Gotta move on.
I was formerly in “strategy” consulting, now tech, and people in tech in my experience don’t give damn about “strategy.” In other words, your not leveraging your background to an audience that cares
Previous relevant experience. Most hiring managers would take Partnerships experience at a no name start up than MBB “strategy” person. Tech indexes on demonstrable skills over prestige. “Managed X partnerships worth $Y revenue” is more tangible than “Harvard”
