Went to the supermarket for a quick restock—milk, eggs, bread. Left with a $60 bill and a pit in my stomach. Same items I bought two weeks ago are now up by at least 15%. Watched an older lady scan items, then quietly return two of them before paying. I caught her eye. We both shrugged like, what do you do? It’s not about budgeting anymore—it’s survival math. You feel it in every aisle. Anyone else finding themselves cutting back on basics just to make it through the month?

I'm hoping you got more than milk, eggs, and bread. Actually, I haven't found them to be the issue lately, it's the price of meat that's really caught my eye. I've been doing things like buying chicken when it's on sale, cooking some and freezing some. Same with pork tenderloins. I'm avoiding beef for the time being, the price of that has gone way up. Coffee is also up, but I can't give that up with a real physical reaction. I'm hoping the trade war doesn't make things worse, when we start paying the tariffs things might get really ugly.

Totally get that. Meat prices have been crazy lately, and freezing leftovers is a smart move. Coffee’s a non-negotiable for a lot of us—can’t just quit that without consequences. Hopefully, the trade stuff doesn’t push things over the edge, but it’s hard to predict right now.

Literally a carton of eggs, a loaf of bread and some milk?

Wow. I had no idea prices were going up that much. I guess I don't pay too much attention because I am typically buying things I need and will buy regardless. Its a shame that costs have gone up so high.

Yeah, it sneaks up on you until you’re staring at a receipt and doing a double take. When prices rise on everyday essentials, it hits way harder than we expect.

Honestly, it feels like everyone’s story these days. Every single time you step into a grocery store, you walk out at least $100 lighter, even if you just grabbed a few basic things. Prices are out of control.

Literally every time I go to the supermarket, I feel like I am getting less, and yet spending more money.

I’m in a tough spot—still waiting for conflicts to clear and out of the blue, a partner reached out regarding a project that they’ve staffed me on. They want my availability to begin working on the matter next week…how do I handle this? I haven’t given notice, but expect to do so soon…I don’t think it’s prudent to start a new matter esp. since I know I’m leaving…but I can’t turn down work with a straight face (especially because my hours are in “checked out” mode)…

In process of buying a house, both my surveyor and specialist damp contractor found damp under kitchen tiles (In the grout) & in skirting boards and up one wall. Sellers had work done initially in 2014 on the wall only(with garuntee) & their company has visited and assured there is no damp… what is next best course of action, get another damp specialist to examine independently of other reports? I don’t trust them….. (U.K. Victorian terrace, damp is in the kitchen extension built circa. 15 y/o)

Welp! Finally got the axe today too. I didn’t even get to talk to my manager. One of the execs I support told me he’s very sorry and I was great, etc etc, but it couldn’t be avoided. Whatever. I kind of never want to work again. I’m heartbroken.

Once when I was waiting tables, I had a guy pay me cash. The change was 45 cents, which I didn't give back to him because like who wants that. He then asked where the change was, and when I explained that I didn't give back the loose change, he made a big stink about how dollars and cents matter and didn't leave me a tip. He was a republican staffer on capitol hill.

Hi how much does a florist get paid per hour? Thanks

Back when I was getting started in the food world, I worked flipping burgers at In-n-Out. A man came in and said the burgers he had gotten weren’t right. He dumped the food on the counter and then he started throwing them back behind the counter. We gave him a refund and then his demeanor completely changed. He was calmer and he told us to have a great day as he left us to clean up the mess he made.
